Bregenz, 20 Oct. 2026. The magnetic appeal of La traviata has not decreased in the production’s second run next summer. Owing to popular demand, the Bregenz Festival has scheduled an additional performance of the lake stage opera, on Monday 23 August 2027. This lengthens next year’s festival by one day.

In the summer season just ended, Damiano Michieletto’s staging of La traviata – played in front of designer Paolo Fantin’s monumental mirror wall, shattered into countless fragments – was enthusiastically received by audiences. All 28 performances were sold out. In all, around 193,500 people saw the Verdi opera on the lake stage. With a total number of approx. 275,000 visitors, the Bregenz Festival set a new record in its 80th anniversary year.

The keen interest in the Bregenz La traviata continues undiminished in the second year. Advance booking for next summer’s events opened this time on 23 August 2026, the last day of the 2026 festival, and sales have been exceptionally strong. “La traviata is in a league of it own and it’s exceeding all comparable sales figures previously,” says the commercial director Michael Diem. “Of the approximately 195,000 tickets that went on sale for 2027, 60 percent have already been booked.”

As a result, when the production reopens on 22 July 2027 there will be 29 evenings on which to follow the story of the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry at next summer’s Bregenz Festival. Tickets for the extra performance on 23 August 2027 are on sale now.

The complete programme of the 2027 Bregenz Festival will be presented on 19 November 2026 in the Festspielhaus.
