Orchestra Concerts

Elim Chan makes her Bregenz debut with a programme of French music from around 1900. The focus is on striking sounds and fascinating stories. Works by Debussy, Ravel and Bonis will be performed, including Ravel's Shéhérazade with mezzo-soprano Rihab Chaieb.

Sibelius' setting of the Finnish national epic 'Kalevala' will be brought to life by choirs from Finland, Prague and Bregenz under the baton of Jukka-Pekka Saraste. This will be preceded by Sebastian Fagerlund's Drifts, which draws parallels between Bruckner and Sibelius.

Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto, known for its virtuosity and emotional depth, will be performed by Mao Fujita. Additionally, under the direction of Petr Popelka, Strauss' 'Also sprach Zarathustra' will be heard, famously known from the film '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

The stormy relationship between Gustav Mahler and Alma Schindler also influenced Alma's music. At the matinee of the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra under Leo McFall, her piano songs arranged for orchestra will be performed with Dorottya Láng, as well as Mahler's 'Fourth Symphony' featuring soprano Sonja Herranen.
