Now in its seventh year, Bregenz Festival’s Opera Studio again invites young singers to Bregenz. They have the opportunity to study some of the most famous opera roles for performances taking place at the Theater am Kornmarkt in Bregenz. Supported by various directors and conductors, the aspiring singers from all over the world can gain professional on-stage experience – a significant step in their careers. Next summer, the Opera Studio stages Jules Massenet’s monumental opera Werther. Before the rehearsals start, however, the young artists attend Brigitte Fassbaender’s masterclass to consolidate their musical knowledge. For years, mezzo-soprano Brigitte Fassbaender traveled the world’s largest stages, among them the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, the Wiener Staatsoper and Bayreuth Festival. She is quite familiar with the role of Charlotte as she sung it herself multiple times. The young talents of the Opera Studio can consider themselves lucky to be working with Brigitte Fassbaender. She knows the world of opera and its challenges like no one else: When she put an end to her singing career in 1995, she turned to directing instead and was the artistic director of the Tiroler Landestheater for 13 years (1999 – 2012).
