Extra performance of "Der Freischütz" on 14 August

Bregenz, 25.10.23. Due to high demand, the Bregenz Festival has scheduled an additional performance of the opera Der Freischütz on 14 August 2024. The Carl Maria von Weber opera is being staged on the lake at Bregenz for the first time. 

Der Freischütz is one of the most popular operas in German-speaking countries, as can be seen also from the production scheduled for the Bregenz lake stage for the 2024 and 2025 season. Only three weeks after tickets went on sale, the Bregenz Festival has added another performance of the opera – on 14 August 2024 – to the schedule in response to the high demand. Der Freischütz will therefore play on 26 evenings. As a result 174,254 tickets have been made available for the opera on the lake stage in 2024. 

At the present time the lake stage at Bregenz is dominated by cranes, work boats and excavators. It’s not only the new lake stage that’s under construction, the concrete slab of whose base will probably be cast at the end of the year. In parallel, the first piles are being driven into the lake bed in preparation for Der Freischütz. 

Carl Maria von Weber’s deeply romantic work will premiere at the festival on 17 July 2024. Philipp Stölzl will direct the opera and design the set, while the music director will be the festival’s conductor in residence, Enrique Mazzola.
