"Siberia" wins award

Bregenz, 8.9.23. Christian Schmidt and Nicole von Graevenitz are delighted to have won the Austrian Music Theatre Prize in the category Best Design for the opera Siberia, staged at the Festspielhaus in 2022. 

“Designer Christian Schmidt has created compellingly nightmarish spaces,” the German public broadcaster BR24 reported after the premiere of Siberia in 2022. There was praise also from the Austrian broadcaster ORF Online: “The costumes by Nicole von Graevenitz fit well into the overall look that has been pieced together, reminiscent of a high-gloss musical.” These positive reviews have been seconded by the winning of the Austrian Music Theatre Prize.

The award 
The Austrian Music Theatre Prize is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements in the opera houses and theatres of Austria and on the highly diverse Austrian festival scene. Productions from the previous season are submitted by the theatres themselves or are nominated by members of the jury. The awards ceremony was held in Vienna City Hall on 7 September 2023.
