Association of friends raises €308,000 for the Festival

Bregenz, 8.5.23. The Friends of the Bregenz Festival have once more subsidised the festival’s programme with a generous amount of money. At the association's general meeting the chairperson Judith Salzmann was able to announce the transfer of just under 308,000 euros to the Bregenz Festival. 

“Friends are the identity of the festival”
Salzmann looked back on her first year in office with satisfaction and expressed her appreciation for the high level of support the members of the association had shown: “You as Friends are the identity of the Bregenz Festival!” She called on those Friends who were present to carry their enthusiasm for the Bregenz Festival out into the world and to try and persuade people to join the association.

Coveted special events
Members of the association enjoy a number of benefits, including priority booking for festival tickets and tickets to the opening ceremony. A colourful assortment of special events was again offered in 2022, for instance a trip to Zurich for a night at the opera and an exclusive visit to a rehearsal of Madame Butterfly with Conductor in Residence Enrique Mazzola.

The association of Friends was set up as the Bregenz Festival Society in 1949, three years after the festival was founded. It currently has more than 1,800 members. The Bregenz Festival, a non-profit-making organisation with limited liability, is the one hundred percent shareholder of the Bregenz Festival Foundation, established in 2002. The founders are the Friends of the Bregenz Festival, the Republic of Austria, the federal state of Vorarlberg, and the municipality of Bregenz.

Tour of new building
The third phase of the renovation and extension of the Bregenz Festival building (Festspielhaus) is progressing in leaps and bounds. Both before and after the general meeting, the Bregenz Festival technical team offered a tour of the newly erected building. The third construction phase at the Festspielhaus is due to be completed in 2024.
