Enrique Mazzola becomes Conductor in Residence

Bregenz, 18.5.22. Enrique Mazzola has been made Conductor in Residence at the Bregenz Festival. The newly created position underlines the close relationship the festival has with Mazzola, who made his Bregenz debut back in 2016 with an orchestral concert. At this summer's festival he conducts the lake stage production of Madame Butterfly. He will also be raising the conductor's baton for the season's first orchestral concert with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

Mazzola, an Italian born in Barcelona, made his lake stage debut in the summer of 2019 with the widely acclaimed premiere of Rigoletto. He also  conducted the Festspielhaus production of Moses in Egypt and an orchestral concert in 2017. As part of a reduced programme of events in 2020 (Festtage im Festspielhaus) he conducted two orchestral concerts. And in the years ahead Mazzola will be on the conductor's rostrum at the Bregenz Festival – as music director not only of Ernani, which premieres at the Festspielhaus on 19 July 2023, but also of Der Freischütz, which opens on the lake stage on 17 July 2024.

The 2022 Bregenz Festival runs from 20 July to 21 August. For tickets and information please visit www.bregenzerfestspiele.com or call 0043 5574 4076.
