For the sixth successive year, talented young singers will get an opportunity to rehearse major roles and then perform on stage at the Kornmarkt Theater, as part of the Bregenz Festival's Opera Studio. International singers of the younger generation will thus be able to gather valuable theatrical experience, supported by stage directors and conductors – an important step in their professional development. In the coming summer Joseph Haydn's magical opera Armida is being performed. But before stage rehearsals begin, the young singers can deepen their musical knowledge and skills in a masterclass that once again will be conducted by kammersängerin Brigitte Fassbaender.
Brigitte Fassbaender was for decades one of the most sought-after mezzo-sopranos in the world and sang at the Bayreuth Festival, the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, among other top venues. Few people know the world of opera with its sundry challenges as well as Brigitte Fassbaender does. When she retired from performing in 1995, she took up stage directing and from 1999 to 2012 worked as artistic director of the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck.
